The old walkway had run its course. Moss growing in the joints, pavers shifting, the whole thing just looking tired next to an otherwise well-kept front yard. This is exactly the kind of job where a surface-level fix would have been a waste of money - because the real problem was underneath.

We pulled out the existing pavers and excavated the base entirely. That part matters more than most people realize. A paver walkway is only as good as what's supporting it. We rebuilt the base from scratch before a single new paver went down. That's what separates a walkway that lasts from one that starts rocking and settling within a few years.

For the new install, we went with Techo-Bloc Eva in Champlain Grey - a larger format paver with a natural stone texture and a really clean, modern look. Paired with a small Versa-Lok garden wall to define the planting bed edge, the whole front entry feels pulled together now. The wall ties the walkway into the existing landscaping instead of just sitting there as a standalone element.

One detail worth mentioning - we intentionally left a small gap between the new pavers and the existing asphalt. The homeowner has plans to replace the driveway down the road, and this lets the new blacktop butt right up against our work for a clean, seamless transition. It's a small thing, but thinking ahead like that saves headaches later. That kind of coordination is just part of how we approach every job.

Whether it's a walkway, a retaining wall, or a full front entry overhaul, the details are what make the difference between work that looks good for a season and work that holds up for decades.
